Do I Need Direct Deposit to Lease a Phone?

This is the number one question we get on our Facebook page. Someone sees our ad, likes the deal, and then asks in the comments: "Do I need direct deposit?" The short answer is no — but it does make things easier. Let us explain.

When you lease a phone from BuyCell Cleveland, we need to verify that you have steady income. That's it. We're not checking your credit score. We're not pulling your report. We just want to see that money is coming in regularly so we know you can handle the weekly payments.

Direct deposit is the easiest — but not the only way

If you have direct deposit into a bank account, the process is quick. You show us a recent bank statement or a screenshot of your deposits, and we can verify your income in about two minutes. That's why we mention it — it's the fastest path to getting approved.

But a lot of our customers don't have traditional direct deposit, and that's completely fine. Here's what else works:

• Paper checks — If your employer pays you with physical checks, bring in a recent pay stub or a photo of your last two checks. That shows us you're getting paid regularly.
• Cash App or Venmo deposits — We see this a lot. If you get paid through Cash App, show us your transaction history with regular deposits. As long as we can see consistent income, it counts.
• Prepaid card deposits — Some people get their pay loaded onto a prepaid debit card. That works too. Just show us the deposit history.
• Self-employed income — If you do gig work, freelance, or run your own thing, we can work with that. Bank statements, Cash App history, invoices — anything that shows regular money coming in.

What about cash jobs?

This one's trickier, but we've helped people in this situation before. If you get paid in cash, the best thing to do is deposit it regularly into a bank account or Cash App so there's a record. If you can show us consistent deposits over the last few weeks, we can usually make it work.

The key word is consistent. We're not looking for a specific dollar amount — we just need to see that income is coming in on a regular basis.

What about disability, SSI, or retirement?

Absolutely — those count as income. If you receive disability payments, SSI, Social Security, or retirement benefits, you qualify. These are actually some of the easiest applications we process because government benefits are deposited on a predictable schedule. What we're really looking for

Let's be real — we're a small business. We're not trying to make the process difficult. We just need to see two things:

1. You have income coming in — from any source
2. It's regular — weekly, biweekly, monthly, whatever your schedule is

That's it. We've approved people with all kinds of income situations. The worst thing you can do is assume you won't qualify and not even try. Most people who reach out to us get approved the same day.
